Democratic Supreme Court puts Rahm Emanuel Back on Mayor Ballot
January 26th, 2011 - 2:18 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonJan 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rahm Emanuel was removed from the mayoral ballot in Chicago yesterday after he failed to meet the eligibility requirements for the state of Illinois which would require that Emanuel be a citizen of Chicago for at least a year before polling day. Emanuel was living in Washington DC until October.
According to the ruling, that court demanded, “We … order that the candidate’s name be excluded (or if, necessary, be removed) from the ballot.” Emanuel insisted that he would appeal the ruling, and ‘BusinessInsider’ reported that the Illinois Supreme Court was unlikely to uphold the decision to keep Rahm off of the ballot, since that court is made up of mostly Democrats, and Rahm Emanuel is a Democrat as well.
Along with such financial supporters as Steven Spielberg, West Wing’s Aaron Sorkin, Napster’s founder- Sean Parker, and Jeffrey Ketzenberg from Dreamworks, Rahm Emanuel also has the support of Bill Clinton, who campaigned for him last week, and President Barack Obama who stated that he wanted Emanuel back on the mayoral ballot.
A report from ‘NBC’ confirmed that the mostly Democratic Supreme Court of Illinois had ordered the Chicago Board of Commissioners to restore the name of Rahm Emanuel to the mayoral ballot of Chicago. Most reports see this as a good sign that the court will accept his case for an appeal in the removal.
