trialWashington, Aug 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Democratic Representative Maxine Waters proclaimed her innocence after a House ethics panel charged the 10-term lawmaker from California of violating unspecified ethics rule. Representative Maxine Waters is the second veteran House Democrats within a span of few days who is facing the chargers of breaking the ethics rule. The California lawmaker has been charged with wrongfully utilizing her influence to provide governmental aid to a bank in which her husband was a former board member and owned stocks.

In a statement that has been released by the 71-year-old Democratic Representative, Maxine Waters says that she has not been involved in any kind of wrongdoings. The California lawmaker also goes on to say that she would not admit to something that she had not done as she had not violated any House rules. Meanwhile, the House Ethics Committee has made the announcement that it has established an ‘adjudicatory subcommittee’ which would take a look at the charges that have been levied against Maxine Waters although it is still undecided when the panel would meet.

Maxine Waters is associated with the House Financial Services Committee that was instrumental in drafting the Wall Street regulatory overhaul which was signed by United States President Barack Obama in the month of July. Meanwhile, the allegations against the California lawmaker came to light just few days after the House Ethics Committee charged Charles Rangel of New York with similar ethics violation charges. In the wake of the allegations levied against the two Democratic leaders, political analysts have raised concern that it might prove to be a setback for the party in the November elections.
