Democracy Activist Aung San Suu Kyi Released

yuiYangon, Nov 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former General Secretary of the National League for Democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi was released from house arrest on Saturday. The democracy activist was under house arrest for 15 years. The Nobel prize winner addressed her supporters and journalist after her release in Yangon. She said that she will talk to western nations about the issue of lifting sanctions if the Burmese people want her to do it.

Aung San Suu Kyi said that she harbors no ill feeling for people who detained her. The Nobel prize winner smiled and told everyone that everybody should work together in “unison” to bring in harmony. She said on Sunday that she will work hard for “national reconciliation” and she hopes that people will support her in her effort. Aung San Suu Kyi supporters gathered in front of her home to see their leader and hear her speak. She said that she was treated well on the personal basis while she was detained. However, she also said that the Burmese officials did not act in accordance with the rule of law.

Aung San Suu Kyi addressed the crowd and said that a prosperous and dignified nation should have a perfect rule of law. She also said that “rule of law” ensures security of the citizens. She said that she is “glad” that people are welcoming and supporting her and she asked her supporters not to stay quiet at the right times. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper called Aung San Suu Kyi as an “unwavering” champion for peace, human rights and democracy of nation. He also said that Aung San Suu Kyi’s trail and appeal process were not conducted in accord with “international standards” and he feels that the activist should never have been detained.
