Pratibha Patil New Delhi, May 9 (IANS) The Delhi government Monday sent a detailed report to the union home ministry about Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan’s alleged involvement in a tax evasion case for which he already stands indicted by the Lokayukta.

“A detailed report, which includes the sequence of events about Chauhan’s alleged involvement in protecting a leading resort in a tax evasion case, has been submitted to the home ministry,” a Delhi government official told IANS.

When IANS contacted Chauhan he refused to comment, saying: “I will not comment on this issue. I have no idea about the report. Please ask my office.”

The home ministry had earlier asked the Delhi government to file its response after the Delhi Lokayukta (ombudsman) in February recommended removal of Chauhan for allegedly trying to influence tax officials who were surveying Tivoli Garden resort in south Delhi in February 2010.

Two months ago Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin recommended to President Pratibha Patil to withdraw her “pleasure” in allowing the minister to continue in the Delhi government.

The home ministry will now look into the report and will recommend the action against the accused minister. The official said that the government was now waiting for the president’s decision, who has three months to take action against the minister.
