New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Taken unawares by Anna Hazare’s unscheduled stop at Rajghat to meditate and the big crowd gathered around him, the Delhi Police said they would wait for about an hour before deciding their next course of action.

Senior officials of the Delhi Police told IANS they were watching the situation closely and had rushed additional force to Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

“The police will not take any action till late evening and only keep an eye on the number of supporters visiting,” said an official.

“We will wait till 6.30 p.m. to see what Anna is doing,” said the official.

Barely hours after he was denied permission for his protest fast at a Delhi park for Tuesday, the social activist stopped at Rajghat.

Hazare told media persons that he was at Rajghat to gather strength ahead of his fast.

Hazare meditated on one of the lawns near the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, taking the Delhi Police totally by surprise.

Hazare has announced an indefinite fast from Aug 16 to press for a stronger Lokpal bill.
