Delhi government blames civic body for dengue rise
November 9th, 2009 - 11:48 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia Monday accused the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of not taking measures to check the spread of dengue that has claimed two lives in the national capital.
Chairing a high-level meeting with authorities of private and public hospitals Monday, Walia asked them to monitor dengue patients in their vicinity and to provide details of these patients in their hospitals on routine basis.
“The MCD is not taking proper care to stop breeding of mosquitoes in Delhi. Despite several reminders, the MCD health officer is not informing the Delhi government about total dengue cases in various hospitals,” said Walia.
The Delhi government has also decided to intensify dengue awareness campaign in the capital.
“The government will issue public notices, advertisements, do’s and dont’s, sensitising people to spread awareness about the vector borne disease,” she said.
Walia said three Delhi government hospitals — Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital and Hedgewar Hospital — will prepare and formulate the blood platelets.
“Emergency services in all hospitals will be made operational round the clock to take care of dengue patients. The hospitals not furnishing reports on dengue patients will be prosecuted as per provisions,” she said.
She appealed to the people not to wash their cars, bikes and scooters to avoid accumulation of water in streets and pits.
The national capital so far has reported around 550 dengue cases.
