Delhi cabinet panel to help MCD deliver quality services
February 7th, 2011 - 7:20 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 7 (IANS) To help the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) manage its funds and deliver quality services, a committee was set up to look into the civic body’s functioning by the Delhi cabinet Monday. The cabinet met with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in chair.
“The committee under the chairmanship of Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia, will recommend a set of feasible measures to help the civic authority overcome the hassles faced by it in delivering services efficiently, tackle financial mismanagement and other obstacles arising due to the sheer size of the city area under it,” Dikshit told reporters here.
Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Education and Transport Minister Arvinder Singh, Leader of Opposition (Vidhan Sabha) V.K. Malhotra and an opposition member of the state assembly are members of the newly set up committee.
According to Dikshit, the committee is expected to study all recommendations of earlier panels constituted by the union government in this regard.
“The bifurcation of MCD into a number of workable units would prove to be result-oriented as far as the present work culture of the MCD is concerned, which needs to be reformed suitably,” said Dikshit.
Expressing confidence that the committee would consider all aspects and present suitable recommendations, the chief minister expressed hope that the committee would work with an open mind and constructive approach keeping in view the interests of the common man.
“A large number of persons have been daily contacting the MCD for various services and their level of satisfaction needs to be improved. The committee will also keep this in mind while giving its recommendations,” Dikshit added.
