Patna, Dec 13 (IANS) Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan Sunday urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to declare the entire state drought-hit in view of the starvation deaths and suicides being reported from various areas.
“The entire state should be declared drought-hit and urgent measures taken for relief of the people who are dying of hunger or committing suicide due to poverty,” the two leaders said.
They cited cases of alleged starvation deaths and suicides from various districts such as Gaya, Jehanabad, Saharsa, Banka and Darbhanga.
Bihar has been hit very badly by drought this year. The state government had in July declared 26 of the state’s 37 districts as drought-affected.
