‘Decision on Sanatan Sanstha’s ban after studying charges’
May 18th, 2010 - 10:44 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, May 18 (IANS) Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Tuesday said any decision on banning rightwing Hindu outfit Sanatan Sanstha (SS), eleven of whose members were charge sheeted Monday for the Diwali-eve blasts in the state last year, will be taken after studying the charges.
He told reporters that there was no question of banning the outfit until the charge sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was examined by the state home ministry.
“Let the home department examine the charge sheet… only then we will be able to draw any conclusions,” Kamat said, adding that filing a charge sheet alone did not empower the state government to ban any organisation.
“We have to ensure that it stands scrutiny of law,” he said.
“There are hundreds of cases which are being challenged in Supreme Court. We don’t want to take any hasty decision,” he said, referring to bans on organisations being challenged in courts.
Two members of the outfit were killed while ferrying detonator-rigged gelatin sticks to Margoa Oct 16, 2009. No other person was injured in the explosion.
