Ahmedabad, July 22 (IANS) Praful Vaghela, father of one of the two boys who were found dead near religious leader Asaram Bapu’s ashram here, broke his protest fast Tuesday after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi assured a thorough probe into the incident. Vaghela said Modi had given him an oral assurance that a thorough inquiry will be ordered into the deaths of his son Deepesh, 10, and nephew Abhishek, 11.

The cousins, students of the Gurukul School run by the ashram, were missing for two days before their bodies were found from the nearby riverbed July 6.

Allegations of a shoddy police probe have led to widespread protests in the city.

With Modi himself taking interest in the affair and calling Praful and his cousin Shantilal, father of tbe other boy Abhishek, to his home in Gandhinagar the pressure on Praful to end his fast was intense.
