Day after clash, Agra MP on ‘long march’ reaches Haryana

Agra, Dec 9 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian from Agra, on a ‘long march’ to Delhi with a charter of demands, finally crossed over from Uttar Pradesh into Haryana Wednesday, a day after his supporters clashed with police and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) activists in Mathura.
Rama Shankar Katheria wants to present a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil to protest price rise and press for an international airport ar Agra, among other things. He is leading hundreds of party workers to Delhi where a meeting is scheduled Friday at Jantar Mantar.
“Price rise is a major issue affecting all sections of society. Our demands also include a high court bench at Agra, an international airport at the Taj city and a barrage over the Yamuna river,” Katheria told IANS.
In Mathura, BJP workers had clashed with police and BSP activists when allegedly attempting to torch an effigy of Chief Minister Mayawati and trying to breach the security cordon to enter the collectorate to present a memorandum to the district magistrate.
A senior BSP leader’s car was also targeted. Police have identified BJP workers against whom a complaint was registered Tuesday night.
