New Delhi, Nov 24 (IANS) Both houses of parliament were Wednesday adjourned for the ninth consecutive day without transacting any business after the entire opposition continued to noisily demand a parliamentary committee probe into the 2G spectrum allotment of 2008.
This was the second adjournment for the day as earlier in the morning the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon amid a din.
The opposition’s demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum scam brought parliament to halt for the ninth successive day. Virtually no legislative business has been conducted since the winter session began Nov 9.
Wednesday was no different from other days. As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled, opposition MPs from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Left parties and other groups began shouting slogans, demanding a JPC.
They held placards stating, “We want JPC” and “We want justice”. Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house immediately.
When the house resumed at 12 noon, the din continued and Deputy Speaker Karia Munda adjourned the house till 11 a.m. Thursday.
The Rajya Sabha also opened amid similar uproarious scenes as opposition members shouted slogans and moved towards Chairman Hamid Ansari’s podium. Ansari then adjourned the house till 12 noon.
The Rajya Sabha was again adjourned till Thursday morning as protests continued when the house met again at noon.
