Nov 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Republican candidate Dan Coats secured a crucial victory for the Republicans with a strong win over Democrat Brad Ellsworth. The result indicated on Tuesday that Dan Coats will be filling the seat emptied by Sen. Evan Bayh for the six year term. The Republicans had been counting on Dan Coats’ victory for securing the ten seats that would allow them control in the senate. Dan Coats addressed the media after the win on Tuesday and said that it was a night to celebrate but the next morning there would be responsibilities.
Dan Coats addressed the crowd and said that the responsibility were them. He also said that he had been hired by the people of Indiana to stop the reckless spending of the state, to fight against the government’s health care reforms, the job scenario and also for national security. The exit polls had indicated that the factors that worked in favor of the former lobbyist was that two thirds of the voters felt that the economy was the biggest concern for the nation and more than half of the people favored Dan Coats over Brad Ellsworth.
Dan Coats’ decision to contest the elections had come as a surprise to many. He was working as a lobbyist after his stint in the George Bush administration as the ambassador to Germany. He said that the main reason for his return to the race for the senate seat was that he was unhappy with the way the Democrats were ruling the country. Another advantage that Dan Coats’ had over Brad Ellsworth was that he was a far better known face than the latter.
