CWG infrastructure lying unutilised: Maken
August 27th, 2011 - 9:19 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Aug 27 (IANS) Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Ajay Maken Saturday said faulty planning has resulted in infrastructure created for the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) lying unutilised in New Delhi.
Maken warned the Goa government to avoid a Delhi-like situation when it builds facilities for the National Games, due to be held in Goa in 2014.
“The biggest problem is that we do not know how best to utilise infrastructure created for the Commonwealth Games,” Maken said at a book release function in Panaji.
“Faulty planning at that time means that we do not know how to deal with the legacy of the sports infrastructure now,” he said.
Warning the Goa government against potential misuse of sports-related infrastructure proposed to be built for the National Games, Maken said: “There is pressure from various quarters to use sports infrastructure for reasons other than sports. You have to make sure that sports-related infrastructure is used for sports only.”
