October 3rd, 2009 - 11:26 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Srinagar, Oct 3 (IANS) Curfew was imposed in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town Saturday following the death of a 13-year-old boy in clashes that erupted after Friday prayers, police said.
A senior police officer said the situation in the town Saturday morning was tense.
The 13-year-old was killed when police fired tear gas to control the youth who were protesting against the continued house arrest of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani. The boy, Irfan Ahmad Lone, died in hospital Friday.
The body of Irfan was buried in a graveyard in old town of Baramulla late Friday night with hundreds of people joining the funeral shouting anti-India slogans.
Authorities early Saturday moved in heavy police and paramilitary reinforcements into Baramulla, 54 km from here on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, to maintain law and order.
In adjoining Sopore town, which also witnessed protests after Friday prayers, restrictions have been enforced. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed there as well.
