November 26th, 2009 - 9:34 pm ICT by IANS Tell a Friend -

Chennai, Nov 26 (IANS) The Communist Party of India (CPI) Thursday announced it would support AIADMK candidates in bypolls to Vandavasi and Tiruchendur assembly seats in Tamil Nadu to be held Dec 19.
Speaking to reporters here, CPI state general secretary D. Pandian said: “The party has decided to support the AIADMK in the Vandavasi and Tiruchendur by-elections.”

He met AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa Thursday morning.

The PMK, which has decided not to contest the elections, is yet to decide which party to support - the ruling DMK or AIADMK.

PMK, which was in alliance with AIADMK, had recently broken its ties with the latter.

Speaking to reporters here, PMK leader S.Ramadoss said the decision on supporting a party will be taken in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, actor Vijayakant-led DMDK has announced Gomathi Kannan and N. Janardanan as its candidates for Tiruchendur and Vandavasi constituencies respectively.

It will now be a three-cornered contest between the AIADMK, the DMK and the DMDK for the two seats.
