Kolkata, April 24 (IANS) Assailing the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) for the abusive language used by its leaders against the Trinamool Congress, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday said such behaviour is the “biggest identity” of West Bengal’s ruling Marxists.
“They are abusing me using obscene language against me. This kind of language is the biggest identity of CPI-M and their culture. But I won’t abuse them neither will any leaders of Trinamool will do so because we believe in decency and healthy culture,” said Banerjee while addressing a program in Kolkata.
In an election rally at Arambagh in Hooghly district Friday, CPI-M leader Anil Basu had made some disparaging comments against Banerjee.
Local television channels picked up the bytes and have been continuously airing them. Some of the channels even censored the comments describing the words as “unsuitable for broadcasting”.
Basu’s comment has not only drew the ire of the Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who has openly censured Basu, but has also drew criticism from all sections of the society.
“In last 34 years they have done nothing except perpetuating violence and character assassination of opponents. On many occasion they have tried to kill me but I have survived with the blessings of the masses. In this election the CPI-M will face defeat in the hands of masses,” said Banerjee.
Banerjee also appealed to the masses not to waste a single vote by voting in favour of BJP, which according to her has colluded with the CPI-M led Left Front to divide the anti Left votes of the state.
