Kolkata, Jan 7 (IANS) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Friday charged the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) with trying to retain power in West Bengal by resorting to killings and said people will give a befitting answer to “bullets” through the “ballot”.”They are committing these atrocities only to retain power. Their cadres are being given arms. They are murdering everyday,” Banerjee said at a party rally called in central Kolkata where the bodies of three people killed in Burdwan district were displayed.
The Trinamool has claimed the three were their supporters, and blamed the CPI-M for the murders. The CPI-M has denied the allegations.
The Trinamool supremo said political killings have become a daily occurrence in the state.
“Everyday six to eight people are being killed. West Bengal has become a death zone. In last one and half years around 250 of my supporters have been killed,” she said.
On the CPI-M’s accusation that she was indulging in politics of corpses, she said: “If you kill people it is not politics, if you carry arms it is not politics… If you do not kill then there is no need for me to do politics”.
Turning to the killing of seven people in West Midnapore district’s Lalgarh Friday, allegedly by CPI-M backed miscreants sheltered in armed camps, Banerjee said: “I am certain that the people of the state will give a befitting reply to these bullets through the ballots.”
