CPI-M to form ‘rectification’ body
December 28th, 2009 - 4:04 pm ICT (UTC +0700) by IANSAgartala, Dec 28 (IANS) As part of its rectification efforts, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will form an inquiry body at the central level to identify “non-Communist behaviour and fraudulent acts of party men” and give a report to the politburo for taking action, party sources here said Monday.
“More or less most of the party men have non-Communist behaviour. We want to rectify those non-Communist acts,” said CPI-M central committee member Bijon Dhar.
The Tripura state committee of the CPI-M in a meeting held here last week has discussed “unethical and dishonest acts, a self-centric mentality and craving for sensual pleasures” of a section of party members, said people who had attended the meeting.
“The CPI-M will launch a massive campaign against these misdeeds and increase the political consciousness of the party members and further improve the relations between the party activists and people,” Dhar, also the secretary of the Tripura committee of the CPI-M, told IANS.
He said that the CPI-M has prepared organisational and rectification documents to further strengthen the party and to implement these documents a state level conference would be held here Jan 22 and 23.
After the defeat of the CPI-M in the April-May Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal and Kerala, its central committee has adopted a document for initiating a rectification campaign in the party.
“The process of the rectification campaign at the political, ideological and organisational level is to remove the wrong trends and shortcomings so that the party emerges more unified and strengthened,” says the document.
It updates the party’s 1996 rectification campaign report and is based on the experience of the party in the past 12 years.
“The ongoing process of rectification is likely to be discussed in the three-day central committee meeting, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from Jan 29,” Dhar added.
“The rectification efforts were undertaken by all the party units across the country.”
