CPI-M leader sent to police custody for abduction
January 22nd, 2011 - 9:22 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Jan 22 (IANS) A court in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Saturday sent a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader to police custody for two days in connection with the abduction of a Trinamool Congress leader earlier this month.”Madhusudhan Mahato, CPI-M’s Salboni-Pirakata local committee secretary, was remanded to police custody for two days, after he was produced before the Midnapore district court Saturday afternoon,” said a senior police officer.
“Mahato was arrested Friday night after being grilled for several hours in connection with Trinamool leader Jageshwar Mahato’s abduction earlier this month,” he said.
Madhusudhan Mahato, along with two others, abducted the Trinamool leader from Pirakata area in the Maoist-affected district. He was absconding since then, police said.
“Acting on a tip-off, Madhusudan was picked up Friday evening,” said the officer.
The Trinamool leader is still to be traced.
