CPI-M hails victory in Shimla polls
May 28th, 2012 - 6:08 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 28 (IANS) The CPI-M Monday hailed the election of its candidates Sanjay Chauhan and Tikendar Panwar as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Shimla Municipal Corporation, calling it a “historic win”.
“The CPI-M salutes the people of Shimla for reposing their faith in the CPI-M candidates in the first ever direct election (of mayor and deputy mayor),” the party said in a statement.
Chauhan was elected mayor with a margin of 7,868 votes over the nearest BJP candidate while Panwar was elected deputy mayor with a margin of 4,778 votes over the nearest BJP candidate.
