CPI-M demands Amit Shah’s resignation
July 23rd, 2010 - 8:08 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 23 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Thursday said Gujarat minister Amit Shah should quit in view of a chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged fake shootout of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.
“The CBI investigation should be perused seriously,” CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat said, while giving details about a three-day meeting of the party’s central committee that ended here Friday.
“The investigation has led to evidence involving the role of Shah. Given the history of connivance of Gujarat government in communal progroms, this investigation should be continued,” he said.
Giving out the details of the meeting, Karat told reporters that the party’s central committee has demanded that a parliamentary delegation should visit Jammu and Kashmir and “hear the views of all concerned”.
The CPI-M also appealed to the youth in the Kashmir Valley not to confront the security forces.
Karat also said that the CPI-M and other Left parties have decided to jointly contest the coming Bihar assembly elections.
Karat added that among its discussions, the core committee observed that Hindu extremist elements as well as Muslim radical groups like the Popular Front in Kerala were involved in terror activities.
