Court should have issued notice before ordering probe: Naidu
November 14th, 2011 - 10:25 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Nov 14 (IANS) Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu Monday said the high court order of a probe into his assets without issuing a notice to him was against the principles of natural justice.
Reacting to the high court order directing preliminary probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate and other agencies into his assets, Naidu said he would consult legal experts and would also discuss the issue in the party forum before chalking out his course of action.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president told reporters in Vijayanagaram that by filing a petition without documentary evidence, a deliberate attempt was being made to malign him.
On a petition by YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Vijayalakshmi, wife of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the court earlier in the day ordered a preliminary probe into Naidu’s assets. The CBI, ED and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) were asked to submit reports to the court in three months.
Naidu claimed that he was the only political leader in the country who declared not only his assets but also assets of his family members.
He, however, said he welcomed the probe as all the allegations were “false”.
“YSR ordered 24 investigations against me. Even a house committee was formed but could not prove any allegation. He went to court against me 18 times,” the leader of opposition said.
He denied the allegation that he owned a hotel in Singapore. He said such allegations were made against him since 2001.
