Court rejects CBI probe plea in medical officer’s death
June 24th, 2011 - 6:11 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, June 24 (IANS) The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Friday rejected a plea for a CBI probe into the mysterious death of deputy chief medical officer Y.S. Sachan in Lucknow district jail two days ago.
The vacation bench comprising Justices Shabibul Hasnain and Vedpal issued the direction while hearing the PIL filed by a journalist.
Sachan, the prime accused in chief medical officer (CMO) family welfare B.P. Singh’s murder, was found dead in mysterious circumstances inside a Lucknow district jail toilet Wednesday evening.
Even as a post-mortem report carried several indicators of foul play, the Uttar Pradesh government Thursday stuck to its theory that Sachan committed suicide.
His post-mortem report mentioned “excessive bleeding” as the cause of death and talked about nine wounds on the doctor’s body, yet the officials ruled out murder.
Sachan’s family has been demanding a CBI probe into the matter. However, the state government has categorically ruled out the possibility of a CBI inquiry into the matter.
