Washington, Oct 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Senate Finance Committee will hold a trend-setting vote on health-care reform legislation on Tuesday that is expected to underscore the deep partisan divides that have emerged and hardened over so many months of debate over the controversial health care bill.

Hardly a handful of Republicans are expected to support the controversial health bill sponsored by Chairman Max Baucus. Whereas on the other hand, Democrats have already begun their own negotiations within their own party, which is aimed at reconciling, the various measures passed by House and Senate committees.

“With this markup nearing its conclusion, we can now see clearly that the bill continues its march leftward,” Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said.

“Now it’s time to get the job done,” chairman Baucus, D-Mont., told his colleagues, some of who harbor deep reservations about the bill. “My colleagues, this is our opportunity to make history.”

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, complained that the package would impose billions in new taxes. Whereas Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., complained that 25 million people would still be uninsured despite the major changes in the health bill.

“This package is going in the wrong direction. Spending more and taxing more without covering more people,” Bunning said.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said that the move was a “disgrace” and was a sign that a government-run insurance plan should eventually be enacted to keep the insurance industry in check.

“It’s a powerful argument for the attitude of an industry toward this effort,” Kerry said.
