Chennai, Dec 26 (IANS) Congress party leaders in Tamil Nadu say they are uneasy over Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi not taking any action against separatist elements in the state, especially after their party headquarters came under attack from supporters of common ally Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK).”We are uneasy over the chief minister’s continued inaction against fissiparous elements trying vainly to garner support for the banned Tamil Tigers,” Congress legislature party leader D. Sudarsanam told IANS.

“The state government is empowered to take action against these mischief mongers attacking the unity and integrity of India because of two main reasons. Legal action is permitted under several provisions, and secondly, the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) have just about zero support in Tamil Nadu since the brutal assassination of our former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991,” Sudarsanam said.

“While our party is against the loss of innocent Tamil lives in the island (Sri Lanka)… we are clearly against all those who support the LTTE, including VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan.

The Congress party headquarters in the state - Satyamurthi Bhavan - was Saturday attacked by VCK supporters.

“Though we do not doubt the chief minister’s sincerity in continuing our alliance, but allowing separatists a free run in the state puzzles us,” Sudarsanam added.

Karunanidhi Thursday attempted to better ties within and said in a statement: “All people acting against interests of national integrity will be proceeded against legally and strict action will be taken against them.”

In the 235-member Tamil Nadu assembly, the ruling DMK has 95 MLAs, supported by 35 Congress legislators and a sole VCK legislator.
