Congress undecided on disrupting Karnataka house
January 3rd, 2011 - 10:23 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, Jan 3 (IANS) The Congress, the main opposition party in Karnataka, indicated Monday it has not decided yet on joining the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) in disrupting the legislature session beginning Jan 6 to force land-scam hit Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to quit.”We will carry on the oust Yeddyurappa campaign in both the assembly and the legislative council,” opposition leader Siddaramaiah told reporters here.
On siding with the JD-S, which has announced it would not allow the legislature to function till Yeddyurappa quits, Siddaramaiah said a decision would be taken Wednesday.
He said the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) would meet to work out a plan of action during the 10-day session.
He said he would meet JD-S leaders H.D. Revanna and M.C. Nanaiah to decide a joint plan of action.
Former chief minister and state JD-S president H.D. Kumaraswamy has announced that his party would not allow the legislature to function till Yeddyurappa quits.
He said JD-S would adopt the tactics the BJP followed in stalling the winter session of parliament over its demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum allocation scandal.
The ruling BJP has 105, the Congress 71 and the JD-S 27 members in the 225-seat house.
The effective strength of the house has come down by 16 as 11 BJP and five independent legislators were disqualified for rebelling against Yeddyurappa in September last year.
