Chandigarh, Oct 30 (IANS) With assembly elections likely in February-March next year, the opposition Congress will launch a save Punjab campaign in the state Tuesday.
Punjab Congress president and former chief minister Amarinder Singh and senior party leaders will start the ‘Punjab Bachao Yatra’ from Talwandi Sabo near Bathinda in southwest Punjab, a Congress spokesman said here Sunday.
“The leaders will offer prayers at the Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo Nov 1 and later hold a public meeting in the town,” the spokesman said.
The leaders will then travel across the state over the next two weeks.
The campaign will be aimed at highlighting “the mis-governance and corruption” by the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Elections to the 117-member assembly are likely to be held in February-March next year.
