Congress to analyse its Madhya Pradesh, Chhattishgarh poll reversesDecember 10th, 2008 - 10:14 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS) Taking a serious note of the party’s failure to capture power in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the Congress Wednesday decided to examine what went wrong in its campaign in these states. The party would analyse its performance and ensure that whatever mistakes were made would not be repeated in future, party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters here.
The Congress lost to the BJP in both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Natarajan, however, claimed that in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh a large number of people had rallied behind the party. The difference of votes between the Congress and the BJP in Madhya Pradesh is only two percentage points, she said.
Reiterating the Congress’s commitment not to use the issue of terrorism for political purposes, Natarajan said the party would once again carry forward with the constructive development agenda of ‘aam aadmi’ (common man).
Overall development of the ‘aam aadmi’ is the aim of the Congress in the states where it secured victory, she said.
“The people of our country have sent a very clear signal that the war against terror is and should be non-partisan, and above and beyond politics,” Natarajan said.
The people have rejected the blatant politicisation and communalisation of war against terror by the BJP, the Congress spokesperson said.
Asked about any possibility of a cabinet reshuffle at the centre, she said it was the prerogative of the prime minister to decide.
