Congress slams Jayalalitha’s Eelam talk as ‘irresponsible’April 26th, 2009 - 5:40 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, April 26 (IANS) The Congress party Sunday termed AIADMK chief J. Jayalalitha’s demand for a separate ‘Eelam’ homeland for Sri Lankan Tamils as “anti-national and irresponsible”.
“I see this demand as anti-national and irresponsible,” union Minister Kapil Sibal told IANS reacting to the statement of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister who Saturday supported a separate Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka as the only solution to the decades-old ethnic strife in the island nation.
“We have been asking for a ceasefire. It is not enough. Sri Lankan Tamils should get justice and lead a normal life. They should get all rights that are available to the Sinhalese. For this, a separate Eelam is the only way,” Jayalalitha said.
“I will definitely do it. To form a separate Eelam, vote for the AIADMK-led alliance,” she said at an election meeting in Salem.
