Congress sets up election panel for Kerala

New Delhi, March 8 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi has formed a
35-member state election committee to shortlist candidates for the April 13 assembly polls in Kerala and send recommendations to the party’s central leadership, party leaders said Tuesday.
The committee includes senior leaders from the state including state unit chief Ramesh Chennithala, union ministers A.K. Antony and Vayalar Ravi and Leader of Opposition in the assembly Oommen Chandy.
The committee also includes central ministers Mullapally Ramachandran, K.C. Venugopal and K. V. Thomas.
Former state unit president K. Muraleedharan, who was re-inducted into the party last month, has also been included in the committee.
The Congress leads the United Democratic Front coalition in the state which will take on the ruling Left Democratic Front.
