Congress refutes BJP allegations on Koda

- New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) With the BJP attacking it over the corruption allegations against former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, the Congress Monday said it had not been part of Koda’s government and had only extended outside support to it.
“We extended support (to Koda’s government 2006-08) with the intention of ensuring stability, development, transparency and good governance in the state. If somebody chooses to abuse that mandate or abuse the trust which the people reposed in him, then he faces the law and that is exactly what is happening to the former chief minister of Jharkhand,” Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari said.
To questions about Madhu Koda’s diary reportedly revealing his links with some senior Congress leaders, Tewari said it was not proper to second-guess investigations. He said Koda was before the appropriate forum where he should reveal what he thinks is essential.
About Koda’s threat to reveal all at an appropriate time, Tewari said that such a reaction could be a tactic to intimidate investigators.
Taking a dig at the BJP, he said that the safforn party had no credentials to speak about corruption and it was always looking for issues.
“Investigation is in progress, and it is being carried out both at the state as well as at the centre by the UPA-led dispensation. I don’t think the government has to say anything more about its own credentials in connection with zero tolerance of corruption,” Tewari said.
The BJP has demanded that the government reveal the names in Koda’s diary. Koda faces charges in a Rs.2,500 money laundering scam.
