Congress refutes Arjun Singh on inner party democracyMay 9th, 2008 - 8:34 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, May 9 (IANS) The Congress party Friday expressed disagreement with Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh’s statement that there was lack of inner-party democracy in the organisation. “We are not in agreement. The Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) has been very open and accessible at every level. This includes the Congress Working Committee (CWC) of which Arjun Singh is a part,” Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told reporters.
“Even as the chairperson of United Progressive Alliance (UPA), she takes all constituents into confidence,” he added.
In a book titled ‘Mohe Kahan Vishram’ (Where is the time to rest), a collection of articles on him and edited by Kanhaiyalal Nandan, Singh has said the Congress no longer practises a democratic system in decision-making - a norm the party followed earlier.
However, exercising caution, Ahmed said: “We will have to see if the said chapter (in which the statement was reportedly made) is there after the book is released.”
