Congress re-admits former Maharashtra unit chiefFebruary 21st, 2009 - 12:03 am ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Feb 20 (IANS) The Congress party Friday revoked the expulsion of former Maharashtra state Congress president Ranjit Deshmukh after a nod from party president Sonia Gandhi.
“Congress president Sonia Gandhi has accepted the suggestion for withdrawing the expulsion of Ranjit Deshmukh from the party with immediate effect,” Congress general secaratary Janardan Dwivedi said in a statement here.
Deshmukh was expelled in 2007 after he rebelled against the party and formed the Kisan Vikas Aghadi in the state. He also contested the Lok Sabha elections as a rebel candidate.
For the party it is the second major decision in the state. On Feb 16, it had revoked the expulsion of Narayan Rane.
