Congress promises jobs, citizen’s charter in UP vision document
January 27th, 2012 - 6:25 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Lucknow, Jan 27 (IANS) The Congress Friday released its vision document for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, promising to create 20 lakh jobs in the state in the next five years, rationalising quota provisions for Other Backward Classes and bringing citizen’s charter for services at the grassroots level.
Highlighting key aspects of the document, released at the party office here, union Law Minister Salman Khurshid said a Congress government in the state will ensure that land is acquired with consent of owners and those affected get livelihood security.
Khurshid, who was accompanied by state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, said the party will bring out a separate manifesto.
He said the vision document, which talks of creating “a new Uttar Pradesh” by improving governance, had paid special attention to creating employment opportunities.
Kurshid said a Congress government will “create 20 lakh employment opportunities in the next five years.”
Khurshid, a former chief of Uttar Pradesh Congress, said the party had gone through the statistics in detail and the state needed to have a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 9-10 percent over the next 10 years to create the desired job opportunities.
“We have to create avenues of training and upgrading skills. The document talks about the changes needed in state’s economy (to create more jobs) and taking advantages of liberalisation to every section. Special attention will be paid to take education from school to university,” he said.
Khurshid said no other party had been able to match Congress in the steps taken to ensure social justice.
He said the vision document talks about the “need to rationalise the reservation system so that most backward classes, minorities get opportunities to move ahead”.
