New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS) The Congress Wednesday said the list containing caste description of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and its Bihar unit office-bearers was not released formally and that the party was inquiring how the document became public.
“We are ascertaining if and why such a list was made. It was not released formally. It is a matter of inquiry how it came out,” Congress spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters.
Replying to queries about the name of Meira Kumar having been mentioned in the list by her caste, Tewari said there has been no intent by the party to bring constitutional functionaries into this dispute.
Asked if a formal inquiry has been constituted, Tewari said the investigation was on to fix responsibility.
He added that the Congress state leadership in Bihar has conveyed that the list released did not contain the categorisation alluded to in sections of the media.
