Congress panel on Maharashtra meets SoniaMay 30th, 2008 - 12:48 am ICT by admin
New Delhi, May 29 (IANS) An informal panel of three senior Congress leaders Thursday met party president Sonia Gandhi and discussed the party affairs in Maharashtra. The panel comprising External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A.K. Antony and senior party functionary Ahmed Patel has reviewed the situation in Maharashtra where the Congress along with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is in power.
The informal panel was formed earlier this year amid speculation that the Congress leadership was set to replace Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh ahead of state assembly elections due next year.
Party sources said the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest decision-making body, will discuss the panel’s views at its meeting here Saturday.
