Congress names Ahmed Patel, Naik for Rajya Sabha polls

New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) The Congress Saturday decided to renominate Ahmed Patel and Shantaram Naik as party candidates for biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha.
The Congress also selected Pradip Bhattacharya as the party nominee from West Bengal and Hussain Dalwai as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Maharashtra.
According to a party statement, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has selected Patel as party nominee from Gujarat. The political secretary to Gandhi, Patel’s term in the upper house of parliament was to end in August.
Naik, who is a MP from Goa, has been renominated from the state. His term was to end in July.
Bhattacharya was selected from West Bengal where the party is in a position to get one of its candidates elected.
