Kolkata, June18 (IANS) Congress MP Adhir Choudhury Monday mocked Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee over A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s decision to stay away from the presidential poll, and said her main agenda was to oppose UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee.
“The main agenda behind putting up the name of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was to oppose Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature. She has decided to oppose Pranab-da at any cost. What will she do now? Kalam has already stated that he will not contest the presidential polls,” said Choudhury.
Former president Kalam Monday formally issued a statement that after studying “the totality of the matter”, he decided not to contest the presidential election.
“Kalam was never interested in contesting. In fact, Mamata was more interested in having Kalam as the presidential candidate. Now after losing the political battle she has decided not to speak, but only write her comments on Facebook,” he said.
Choudhury said the people of Bengal will give a befitting reply to Banerjee for opposing the candidature of Mukherjee - the first Bengali since Independence - for the top post.
“Now Didi is crying after her loss of face as also after losing the political battle. And the Left Front is laughing,” he said.
