Ranchi, May 25 (IANS) The Congress has called a meeting of its legislators in Jharkhand Thursday to discuss the political situation after the Shibu Soren-led government was reduced to a minority when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew its support, a party leader said Tuesday.
“Our Jharkhand in charge, K. Keshava Rao is arriving in Ranchi Thursday and he will hold meetings with party legislators to know their opinion about the political situation in Jharkhand,” Congress’ state unit general secretary Shailesh Sinha told IANS.
“Rao will also hold a meeting with senior party leaders and he will apprise the central party leaders about legislators’ and leaders’ opinion about the Jharkhand political situation,” he said.
According to party sources, the Congress is mulling options to form a government in Jharkhand. Its leaders are in touch with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) leaders to bring the two parties together in a Congress-led government.
The Congress, the JMM and JVM-P the have 14, 18 and 11 seats respectively in the 81 member assembly. The JVM-P is a pre-poll alliance partner of the Congress but the two need support of the JMM to reach a majority.
Governor M.O.H. Farook has asked Soren to prove his majority in the assembly by May 31.
