Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi while addressing a poll rally in Gulbarga(Karnataka) said that the UPA government had done a lot for the benefit of the Poor. He said that five years ago, Congress had promised to work for the Poor, Dalits and Backwards and the party has fulfilled its promise.
He said that the biggest programme of the UPA government was Employment Guarantee Scheme through which a job guarantee for hundred days was ensured for all. UPA government carried out the biggest loan waiver programme for the farmers and loan worth Rs 70,000 crores was waived. Mid-day meal scheme for school going children was another achievement of the UPA government.
Congress General Secretary said that he was in Andhra Pradesh recently, and he felt that Congress government in Andhra Pradesh and UPA government at Centre had done fantastic work together. He expressed concern for Karnataka, as the BJP government there did not implement the central Schemes. He alleged that Karnataka government did not utilize thousands of crores of rupees for Employment Guarantee Scheme and irrigation projects. He said that all the funds and projects get trapped in Bangalore and don’t reach to common man.
Congress General Secretary assured the people of Gulbarga to declare it a special region and put it under article 371.He assured them of more rail connectivity and better irrigation facilities.
He accused BJP for being anti-poor. He said that this the basic difference between Congress and opposition that Congress thinks for the Poor while opposition works for the rich people. Congress General secretary said that there must be development in every part of Karnataka and not only in Bangalore.
He appealed to people to vote for Congress, so that better programmes for the poor could be made.
