Congress core committee meets on Lokpal bill

New Delhi, Dec 27 (IANS) The Congress core group met here Tuesday in the wake of opposition demand for amendments to the Lokpal bill and the reservation of some of its own allies to some provisions of the anti-corruption legislation.
Congress sources said the core group meeting, attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, considered suggestions made during the debate on the bill in the Lok Sabha.
While a number of parties said that states should have discretion in enacting a law on Lokayukta, some members also expressed concern that the bill had provisions which require presiding officers to inform Lokayukta about complaints against MPs.
Congress sources said the party had an “open mind” to discuss the suggestions made by members on the floor of the house.
