Raipur, July 13 (IANS) The opposition Congress has called for a shutdown Tuesday in Chhattisgarh to protest the killing of 29 policemen in three separate attacks by Maoists in Rajnandgaon district Sunday.
State Congress chief Dhanendra Sahu Monday said that the shutdown is to highlight the failure of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in controlling the Maoist violence in the state.
Meanwhile, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister Raman Singh, Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar and Director General of Police Vishwaranjan laid wreaths on the bodies of the killed policemen at parade ground in Rajnandgaon town.
In state capital Raipur, hundreds of people turned up at Devendra Nagar crematorium to attend the funeral of Vinod Kumar Choubey, 49, Rajnandgaon superintendent of police, killed in one of the attacks.
