Congress, BSP playing games over Bundelkhand: BJP

Lucknow, Nov 9 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday accused the central and Uttar Pradesh governments of playing politics in the name of Bundelkhand and said the situation in the backward region was turning from “bad to worse” each day.
Hitting out at the Congress-led government in New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh’s ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), BJP national vice president Kalraj Mishra wanted to know what had happened to the Rs.200 crore allocated by the union government to address drinking water problems in the water-scarce region.
“The union government announced the allocation of Rs.200 crore following the prime minister’s visit to Bundelkhand’s Banda district in May, but locals in the region continue to grapple with drinking water problems,” Mishra told reporters in Hamirpur district, about 200 km from here.
Addressing a press conference, he said: “The situation in Bundelkhand is turning from bad to worse… we ought to know the status of the Rs.200 crore from the Congress and the Mayawati governments. The people of Bundelkhand have the right to know what has been done with Rs.200 crore meant for solving their water problems.”
Stating that the two governments did not appear to be serious, he said they were just “doing politics”, Mishra, who launched the Jan Swabhiman Yatra against corruption in the state.
He is leading one of the two Jan Swabhiman Yatras against the Mayawati government. The other is being led by former party president Rajnath Singh.
The two yatras would traverse through 188 state assembly constituencies in 31 districts of Uttar Pradesh, which goes to the polls next year.
The exercise culminates in Ayodhya Nov 17 in a gathering that would also be attended by BJP president Nitin Gadkari.
