Mumbai, Oct 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Congress-NCP coalition is working well, as they lead/have-won in 144 seats out of the 288 Maharashtra assembly seats, according to the reports available now. BJP-SS is leading/won 90, whereas Third Front has 13 so far. MNS is looking at only 14 seats and Others have 29 seats, according to the results available now.
The Samajwadi Party has just got 4 seats. While the counting is still on, the Cong-NCP combine has clearly won in 37 constituencies while the BJP-SS combine has won in 21 seats and is leading in 67, while MNS has won in 4 seats and is leading in 8 seats. The Third Front has won in 5 and is leading in 8 other constituencies. While others have won in 3 constituencies and are leading in 26 other places.
| Party | Wins | Leads |
|---|---|---|
| CONG++ | 37 | 109 |
| BJP+ | 21 | 67 |
| MNS | 4 | 8 |
| THIRD | 4 | 8 |
| OTHERS | 3 | 26 |
According to the Election Commission, the election was held on Oct 13th and the counting is to be done October 22nd and the whole election process shall finish on October 25th. According to reports, it looks like all the sitting Chief Ministers are looking forward to their second term, however complete results are still to come in.
Along with Maharashtra, the other states that went to the polls are Arunachal Pradesh and Haryana. The counting of votes in these 2 states are on today itself.
“People of Maharashtra have voted for development and progress of the state”, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said as the state’s ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance headed for its third consecutive victory in the assembly elections when the counting of votes commenced on October 22nd.
There was a dark possibility that the Cong-NCP coalition would still fall short of a few seats for the half-way mark of 145 seats in the 288-member assembly, Chavan said that, “Congress-NCP would form a government with the support of secular and like-minded parties.” He also clarified that, “the next chief minister would be, he decided by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.”
However, he was dead against taking support of Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which was on track to bag at least four seats and was leading in another dozen-odd seats around the state.
According to reports, Poonam Mahajan who is the daughter of the late Pramod Mahajan, (who was killed in a cold blooded murder by his own brother), is trailing in the counting process.
