‘Comparison of cash for votes with poor-feeding not fair’April 2nd, 2009 - 8:52 pm ICT by IANS
Chennai, April 2 (IANS) Tamil Nadu’s chief electoral officer Thursday objected to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh’s comparing poor-feeding schemes in temples here with distribution of cash to voters in northern India.
“Jaswant Singh’s equating distribution of cash in northern India with poor-feeding in temples here, in our opinion, is incorrect,” Naresh Gupta, the election officer, said.
“We have strictly prohibited use of political poor-feeding beyond the purview of ongoing schemes in Tamil Nadu temples which have been in existence for long.
“While political cavalcades are not banned per se, recordings of such measures will be accessed and assessed for expenditure accounts of candidates belonging to different political parties,” Gupta added.
