Clinton Obama on Prime Time Television: You call this a debate?

This was so not a debate! Debate is a formal method of interactive and position representational argument. Debate is a broader form of argument than logical argument, since it includes persuasion which appeals to the emotional responses of an audience, and rules enabling people to discuss and decide on differences, within a framework defining how they will interact. Informal debate is a common occurrence, but the quality and depth of a debate improves with knowledge and skill of its participants as debaters. [Wiki]

But what happened tonight was an insult to my intelligence and effort to understand the two Democrats. I am not sure who will win, but I for sure have lost it. There was hardly any quality and depth in the debate. It was all bitterness and bitching about each other personal issues and standards. In doing so they revealed their own quality and standard or the lack of it.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton traded personal accusations about their strength of character, honesty, patriotism and personal relationships Wednesday night in a debate that underscored the escalating bitterness of the Democratic presidential campaign.[Nationalpost] Neither candidate emerged unscathed from the debate.

Do we really need such candidates? Aptly summed up by John Edwards “This kind of squabbling — how many children is this going to get health care? How many people are going to get education because of this? How many kids are going to get to go to college because of this?” The onus of decision lies on us now!
