Sep 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Christine O’Donnell, who is the Republican Senate candidate in Delaware is making light of the comments which she made over a decade ago, in high school saying that she “dabbled in witchcraft.”
She asked her fellow Republican member at a GOP picnic which was held in the southern part of Delaware, “How many of you didn’t hang out with questionable folks in high school?” O’Donnell went on to jokingly add, “There’s been no witchcraft since. If there was, Karl Rove would be a supporter now.”
O’Donnell is now a conservative Christian activist, who not only won the election to an upset victory over GOP moderate Michael Castle, but she won in a surging tide of activism by her party. Castle is a long time congressman, and former two term governor who was not expected to lose.
The comments in question were made way back in 1999, during the taping of Bill Maher’s show “Politically Incorrect’. “I dabbled into witchcraft. I never joined a coven. “I hung around people who were doing these things. I’m not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do. One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn’t know it. I mean, there’s little blood there and stuff like that,” she said. “We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar.”
But Russ Murphy, who is the executive director of the 9-12 Delaware Patriots stated that this is just an attempt by political opponents and pundits to discredit O’Donnell. “They’re going to be pulling for straws from the sky to do anything to stop this momentum, and they don’t realize it’s not going to work.”
