Bhopal, Nov 20 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of late has literally been making song and dance, occasionally beating his drum too.

Joining tribals in Dindori district Friday, he shook a leg to the beat of the “mandar”, the ethnic drum.

The previous day he was in Umaria district, literally beating drums.

A year back, on Oct 22, 2009, he was at his vocal best, singing songs at least on two occasions.

Besides, Chouhan has been meeting labourers at roadside tea shacks, stopping his car and joining them for a hot cuppa, or having a bite with tribals in their homes.

Some say, this may be the reflection of Chouhan’s excitement as he is all set to become the first BJP chief minister of Madhya Pradesh to complete a five-year term in office Nov 29.

Madhya Pradesh has had 26 chief ministers, including seven from the BJP and the earlier Janta Party. However, none of them completed five years in office.

Chouhan replaced Babulal Gaur as chief minister Nov 29, 2005. Gaur was in chair for about fifteen months. Before him, Uma Bharti led the government for eight months. Before them, Sunderlal Patwa and three other Janta Party chief ministers also were not able to complete their five-year terms.

The party has decided to go all out and celebrate Nov 29 as Karyakarta Gaurav Diwas and is working hard to bring a large number of people for the occasion.

Chouhan is currently on the second round of his Vanvasi Samman Yatra — honouring tribals.

“Pehli baar koi mukhyamantri hamare yahan aaye aur hamare sath chai pi…(It was the first time a chief minister visited us and sipped tea with us),” reacted Koili Bai Baiga, a tribal woman in Dindori district in her broken Hindi.
