- Hyderabad, May 17 (IANS) The Andhra Pradesh state assembly will have 132 new faces but some of them are not unfamiliar to the people in the state.
The new house will have superstar Chiranjeevi, actress Jayasudha Kapoor and bureaucrat-turned-politician Jayaprakash Narayan among its new members.
The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) received a severe drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections but its founder and president Chiranjeevi is among its 18 legislators elected to the assembly.
The filmstar-turned-politician is expected to bring glamour to the house.
The superstar is representing Tirupati, the temple town where he launched his party in August last year after a three decade long film career. He had contested from two constituencies but lost from Palacole in his native West Godavari district.
Jayasudha, who sprang a surprise by defeating Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader T. Srinivas Yadav in Secunderabad, will add to the glamour.
Notable among the new faces is Jayprakash Narayan, a former bureaucrat whose presence is expected to raise the level of debate. He quit the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the mid 1990s to launch Lok Satta, a movement for democratic reforms.
In 1997, he turned Lok Satta into a political party and impressed many with his slogan of new politics.
Nearly half of the new faces in the new house belong to the Congress, which retained power with 157 seats in the 294-member assembly. The rest are from the TDP, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and other parties.
The new faces also include T. Taraka Rama Rao, the son of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao. He won from Sircilla constituency in Karimnagar district.
